There are a number of "rules" listed below that define how a search recognizes what you type. Don't be too concerned, you may want to read them ONLY if you have a question about specfic search behavior. For the most part, all you need to know is one basic rule:
Start entering text and then click on the [Search] button when you see a short list of autocomplete items that contain the product you are looking for.
Basic Search Rules
- There are currently two types of search: (1) SKU and (2) Product Name. A Keyword Search is in the works...
- You can search for one SKU or one "word" within a Product Name; partial searches are allowed
- SKU partial searches return SKU's starting with the characters entered
- Product Name partial searches return Products with the search term anywhere within the Product name
- A search term ends with the first space or apostrophe
- When you have entered your search term, click the [Search] button to return all products matching that term
Autocomplete
- When you start typing in the SKU or Product Name text box, an "Autocomplete List" of SKU's or Product Names matching the characters you have entered will be presented as you type
- The list will contain only the first 25 matching SKU's or Product Names found
- As you type more characters, the list will likely get smaller until it starts to shrink smaller than 25 displayed items; this will give you immediate feedback on the success of your search
- When you click the [Search] button, a list of products will be retrieved that match the search term.
- Even if the Autocomplete box limits the search "hint" to 25 items, the actual Product Search (when you click [Search]) will return all Products matching the search term
Specials Characters
- A Search Term ends at the first space or apostrophe
- Even though special characters (non-alphanumeric) might be accepted in the text box, most will not be recognized as part of the search term
- The hyphen ("-"), period (".") and underscore ("_") are all allowed and recognized during the search
